World Hemophilia Day 2015

Hemophilia is a condition in which bleeding is prolonged. Hemophilia is a condition present from birth and is normally inherited; you can't 'catch' hemophilia or pass it onto others. In some rare instances, hemophilia may develop later in life (typically affecting people in the 50+ age group).

Since 1989, patient groups worldwide have annually celebrated World Haemophilia Day (WHD) on 17 April to raise awareness and understanding of haemophilia and other bleeding disorders. On WHD, Novo Nordisk together with patient groups around the world organise awareness-raising campaigns, media events and a variety of activities to educate people with haemophilia and the general public about bleeding disorders and emphasise the importance of proper care.

The University of Zimbabwe - Mpilo Medical Library today joins the rest of the world in celebrating the World Hemophilia Day.
