This book has proved as an ideal go to book for student nurses and especially midwives at Mpilo in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, looking for information on pregnancy, maternal and new born nursing. Written in clear easy to understand language, it covers the usual topic of reproductive anatomy, physiology conception, fetal development, nutrition, it also includes fetal monitoring, pain management, procedures such as cesarean births. 

 Post natal care and reproductive health issues such family planning are also covered especially in relation to special groups such as teenagers.  Nursing process for these conditions is outlined for various conditions and situations also presented  making it an ideal source of information for midwives looking up nursing processes in midwifery. The nursing process is the accepted framework of client assessment and analysis of client needs. It is used to plan and provide nursing care and evaluate clients response to care.- in the book the nursing process is treated in the narrative form- were basic information about the condition is presented  and nursing care plans. Interventions are general and explained by rationales.  To make it easier to transfer general information to care for specific clients, the book also has nursing care plans based on various client situations often encountered in maternity nursing.


*SPECIAL FEATURE:  It includes a chapter on teenage pregnancy,  pregnancy at older ages (primigravidas)  including some statistics, nursing care plans, physical assessment  and application of the nursing process  for these groups. 
This book is therefore very useful for note taking or as a starting point for research on teenage pregnancy and primigravidas pregnancy as well as other maternal and new born health related topics.
