It is not always easy to get statistics on various health
conditions in Zimbabwe , especially when you are trying to write a research
proposal or project. The usual cry is
“I cannot seem to find statistics on my topic! “
However, there are a number of good statistical data sources
if you know where to look for them. The first start is of course your local
medical or hospital library in Zimbabwe, as these libraries sometimes get
policy documents, as well as statistical reports from the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
One good source of
health information in Zimbabwe is the Zimbabwe Multiple Indicator monitoring
survey ( MIMS) produced by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (
ZIMSTAT). This is a government agency
that produces statistical data reports on key areas such as, environment,
gender, health, judicial and social welfare, agriculture, industrial production,
finance, tourism and national accounts among other things.
The Zimbabwe Multiple Indicator monitoring survey ( MIMS)
book, available in our library, gives
information and statistics on child
mortality, nutrition, child health, environment, reproductive health,
education, child protection and HIV/ Aids
statistics in Zimbabwe.
ZIMSTAT data and statistics is available online on their
website http://www.zimstat.co.zw/ . The
website also provides access to downloads of statistical data through the ZIMDAT database.
Those who would like to download from this database should click on the link “download ZIMDAT” in
order to access these downloads
Go on try it.
Another source for some data on Zimbabwe's health status in the Ministry of Health and Child Care http://www.mohcc.gov.zw/downloads?start=10 you get links to some downloads that can be useful for background information.
Other data can also be obtained from www.unicef.org/zimbabwe/ZMPMS_report.pdf
Try some of these sources you make get just what you need for your research.
